Pneumatic Drum Clutches and Brakes

Pneumatic Drum Clutches and Brakes

Working Principle :- The Pneuflex units are used as both clutches and brakes like pneumatic drum brake, pneumatic disc clutches in general power transmission applications on all types of machinery. The primary feature of this design is the pneuflex torsional resilient principle made possible by the transmission of the power through sidewalls of the flexible rubber and cord actuating tube. These expand radially inwards when pressurized. This constricting tube forces friction shoes against cylindrical drums. More is the pressure more is the torque transmitted. The flexibility also permits minor shaft misalignment. We are offering pneumatic clutches, pneumatic brakes, pneumatic drum clutches, pneumatic drum brakes which have following features...

Working Principle :-The Pneuflex units are designed and built for severe clutching and braking applications on heavy duty equipment. They are unmatched for high stating loads and sustained slippage where heat generated tends to shorten the operating life of conventional clutches. Their high torque ratings permit use of small diameter compact units. Ventilated construction permits passage of cooling air to rapidly dissipate heat from the friction shoes. Torque is transmitted from the side plates of the elements through torque bars to the friction shoes. Pressurizing the actuating tube forces the friction shoes to engage around a cylindrical drum. Leaf springs in the torque bar cavities of the backing plates retract the friction shoes when the actuating tube pressure is released.

Combination Clutches / Brakes

Combination Clutches Brakes

The PNEUTORQUE Clutch / Brake combination unit consists of an air actuated disc clutch and spring applied Disc Brake. Its compact design combined with its high thermal capacity and low air consumption makes it ideal for high speed, high cyclic, heavy-duty industrial applications. When cylinder is pressurized, the piston clamps the clutch disc to the hub, which transmits the torque to shaft. When cylinder exhausts, the springs moves the piston in the opposite direction clamping the brake disc & stopping the shaft.

Overlap between Clutch and Brake is completely eliminated. Pneutorq offers a wide range of pneumatic drum brake and pneumatic disc clutches units for use in Power presses, Shearing machines, Wood working machines & Special Purpose machines with the large range of sizes and capacities of Clutch Torque 260 NM to 26000 NM and Brake Torque from 180 NM to 18000 NM are available in numerous models.

Properties, areas of application

Clutches and brakes in both single and double-plate versions permit high switching frequencies and high thermal loading. Multi-plate versions, on the other hand, provide a favourable torque size ratio, but their permitted thermal loads are lower than for the single and doubleplate versions. Pneumatically actuated clutches with spring-applied brakes can be supplied as a combined unit in a single-plate version. This unit, which was developed in particular for presses and guillotines, is capable of being fitted between flywheel and machine body in a very small space.

Operation

With pneumatic clutches, the axial thrust for building up the torque is transmitted by a piston running in a cylinder. When the cylinder space is depressurised, the springs push back the piston to its starting position.
With spring-applied brakes, the axial thrust required for building up the torque is generated by springs. The brake is released by applying the appropriate pneumatic pressure to the piston. In the combined units, the frictional connection is produced on the clutch side with air pressure and on the brake side with spring pressure. The number of springs and thereby the spring pressure can be selected in accordance with the level of torque required.

Being a compact unit it is mainly used in machine tool and where dimensions are critical. These are normally off type units. Frequent adjustment is required as clutch plates wear. Wearing parts are replaceable.
